Study and Stylistic Analysis of the Manuscript of the Divan of Izadi Kazeruni

Mehdi Soroush Nasib , Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini (Author in Charge), Maryam Parhizkari

Abstract

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The literary revival in the Qajar era provided a platform for the revival of the traditions of classical Persian poetry; however, many orators of this period still remain in the dust of obscurity. Mirza Mohammad Khan Izadi Kazeruni, nicknamed Fasih al-Molk (1255-1322 AH), is one of these masterful but unknown ghazal poets. The present study introduces this author and studies and analyzes his divan in a structured manner at three levels: linguistic, literary, and intellectual, in order to clarify his literary position in the late 13th and early 14th centuries AH.

METHODOLOGY: This study was conducted with a descriptive-analytical approach and based on library studies.

FINDINGS: On the linguistic level, the use of seas of bahrahs and raml, along with the use of nominal and verb lines and rhymes, has given his words a high musical coherence. On the literary level, the poet has created a dynamic network of imaginative forms and novel arrangements by returning to the literary traditions of the Iraqi style. On the intellectual level, the high frequency of concepts such as love and reproach for hypocritical asceticism and the conflict between reason and love introduces him as a dervish-like poet and an original lyricist.

CONCLUSION: The stylistic analysis of the Yazidi Kazeruni divan shows that despite living in the Qajar era, he had a strong connection with the classical literary tradition, especially the Iraqi style. He has been able to give his poems a special stylistic identity by combining traditional eloquent language with the dialect language of the Persian region and also using mystical and astronomical terms.
