A Stylistic Study of the Love Poems of Manohar and Demalt by Zahir Kermani Ruqiya Rostami

Roqiyeh Rostami (Author in Charge)

Abstract

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: This study examines the stylistics of the "Manohar and Demalt" (Majm al-Bahrain) poem by Zahir Kermani. This work dates back to the 12th century AH, was revised by the author in 1398 and published in 1401. The revision and study of this work provide us with a clearer picture of the stylistics of this era, and this study is important in this regard.

METHODOLOGY: This study was conducted through a library study and a descriptive-analytical method, and its statistical population includes 4152 verses from the poem "Manohar and Demalt" by Ibrahim Zahir Kermani.

FINDINGS: The findings show that the origin of this story is Indian and the poet has arranged one of the five famous Indian legends called "Manohar and Demalt". There are five copies of this poem in the libraries of the Majlis and Astan Quds Razavi. In the work of Zahir Kermani, among the novel verbal devices, the device of repetition has a higher frequency than the pun. Repetition at various levels, in addition to various rhetorical aspects and especially emphasis and attracting the attention of the audience, is an important characteristic of Zahir"s poetic language, which is due to his ability to recognize the music of poetry.

CONCLUSION: The results of the study show that among the novel spiritual devices, the use of the device of proportion and allusion has a higher frequency than other devices, and the variety of devices such as simile, assonance, and alliteration is less observed. Zahir-Karmani has used more detailed and eloquent similes, and the use of eloquent similes shows the poet"s imaginative mind. His exaggerations are easy to understand, and his most important theme is dealing with pure and chaste love.
