Although numerous studies have examined historicism in Reza Julaei’s works, systematic analysis of characterization as a narrative and ideological structure has been rare. This study aims to investigate how characters are formed in relation to history in three major novels—Autumn 32, Hall of Revelry, and The Rise of the Winter Sun METHODOLOGY: Using an analytical–critical approach grounded in narratology, the study conducts both scene-oriented and character-oriented textual analyses. All major and minor characters in the selected works are examined through descriptive and conceptual coding to identify and classify dominant patterns of characterization. FINDINGS: The results reveal that Julaei’s characters are not heroic agents of action but bearers of collective memory and subjects suspended in a historical limbo, where personal identity emerges at the intersection of historical forces, power dynamics, and trauma. This mode of characterization contributes to the formation of a critical perception of history and memory. CONCLUSION: Characterization in Julaei’s works transcends the boundaries of narrative technique, functioning as a central mechanism for critical historiography. Through the interplay of memory, temporality, and identity, his fiction reconstructs the relationship between the individual and power from a distinctly historical perspective.زمینه و هدف: شخصیت و سازوکارهای شخصیت‌پردازی‌‌‌‌ از ارکان بنیادین روایتند که در بازنمایی نسبت فرد با تاریخ و قدرت نقش تعیین کننده ای دارند. با وجود پژوهشهای متعدد درباره تاریخ‌گرایی در آثار رضا جولایی، تحلیل نظامند شخصیت‌پردازی به مثابه ساز و کار روایی و ایدئولوژیک کمتر مورد توجه قرار گرفته است. این پژوهش با هدف واکاوی نحوۀ شکل گیری شخصیتها در نسبت با تاریخ در سه اثر شاخص جولایی (پاییز ۳۲، تالار طربخانه و برآمدن آفتاب زمستانی) انجام شده است. روشها: پژوهش حاضر با رویکردی تحلیلی انتقادی و با تکیه بر روایت‌شناسی، از طریق تحلیل صحنه ‌‌محور و شخصیت‌محور انجام شده است. دادههای پژوهش شامل تمام شخصیتهای اصلی و فرعی این سه رمان بوده است که در قالب کدگذاری توصیفی و مفهومی، الگوهای غالب شخصیت‌پردازی استخراج و طبقه بندی شدند. یافته ها: نتایج نشان میدهد که شخصیت‌ها در جهان داستانی جولایی نه کنشگران قهرمان‌محور، بلکه حاملان حافظه جمعی و سوژه ‌هایی در وضعیت تعلیق تاریخیند، وضعیتی که در آن هویت فردی در تقاطع نیروهای تاریخ قدرت و تروما شکل میگیرد. این الگو نوعی بازنمایی انتقادی از تاریخ اجتماعی و سیاسی معاصر را رقم می زند. نتیجه گیری: شخصیت‌پردازی در آثار جولایی فراتر از یک عنصر روایی عمل می‌کند و به سازوکاری برای تاریخ‌نگاری انتقادی بدل می‌شود. از این منظر، روایت جولایی با تمرکز بر ذهن و حافظه تاریخی شخصیت‌ها، امکان تبیین مجدد رابطه فرد و قدرت را در بستر روایت فراهم می‌آورد.شخصیت‌پردازی, روایت‌شناسی, تاریخ نگاری انتقادی, رضا جولاییCharacterization, Narratology, Critical Historiography, Reza Julaeihttps://bahareadab.com/downloadPDF/1991.pdfhttps://bahareadab.com/downloadPDF/1991.pdfhttps://bahareadab.com/article/تحلیل شخصیت و شخصیت‌پردازی در روایتهای تاریخمند رضا جولاییhttps://bahareadab.com/en/article/Character analysis and character development in Reza Julayi’s historical narratives
