The present study examines the impact of gender and social context on politeness strategies use in the dialogues of male and female characters of ten selected films from contemporary Iranian cinema. The aim of this study is to investigate patterns of positive/negative and direct/indirect politeness use, as well as to explore gender-based differences related to the speaker’s and screenwriter’s gender and the influence of social context. METHODOLOGY: This research employs a nonrandom sampling method. The statistical population consists of all feature-length narrative films produced in Iranian cinema between the 1990s and 2020s. To narrow the scope, ten social realist films—equally directed by male and female filmmakers and representing cultural, social, and linguistic changes in Iranian cinema—were selected and analyzed within the framework of Brown and Levinson’s Politeness Theory. FINDINGS: The findings indicate that factors such as genre, social context, and speaker’s position (power relation and intimacy) exert greater influence on the choice of politeness strategies than the author’s gender. However, subtle yet meaningful differences are observed in the manner of expression and types of strategies employed by male and female characters. CONCLUSION: In these films, women and men attempt in various ways to represent and assert their identities. The results of this study can be beneficial for research in social sciences, linguistics, pragmatics, media policy-making, and film criticism.زمینه و هدف: سینما به ‌عنوان یکی از قدرتمندترین ابزارهای انتقال فرهنگ و بیان ایده ها میتواند بخشی از هنجارهای اجتماعی را بازتاب دهد و در شکل‌دهی و تأثیرگذاری بر آنها نقش فعالی داشته باشد. پژوهش حاضر به بررسی تفاو‌تهای مبتنی بر جنسیتِ شخصیتها و جنسیتِ نویسنده و بررسی تأثیر بافت اجتماعی در بکارگیری راهبردهای ادب در گفتگوهای زنان و مردان در ده فیلم منتخب از سینمای معاصر ایران میپردازد. روشها: این پژوهش از شیوه نمونه گیری هدفمند بهره میبرد. جامعۀ آماری این پژوهش شامل کلیه فیلمهای سینمایی بلند داستانی تولید‌شده سینمای ایران در فاصله دهه1370 تا 1401 است. به منظور محدود کردن دامنۀ پژوهش، ده فیلم از سینمای اجتماعی که توسط کارگردانان زن و مرد به نسبت مساوی تولید شده اند و نمایانگر تغییرات فرهنگی، اجتماعی و زبانی در سینمای ایران هستند انتخاب‌ و در چارچوب نظریه ادب براون و لوینسون (1987) مورد بحث و بررسی قرار گرفتند. یافته ها: یافته های پژوهش نشان مید‌هند که در مجموعۀ نمونه ها، عوامل ژانر، زمینه روایی، بافت اجتماعی و موقعیت گوینده (نسبت قدرت، صمیمیت) بیش از جنسیت مؤلف در انتخاب راهبردهای ادب تأثیرگذار هستند؛ با این حال تفاوتهای ظریف و معناداری در شیوه بیان و نوع راهبردها بین بازیگران زن و مرد مشاهده میشود. نتیجه گیری: در این فیلمها، علی‌رغم تأثیر بافت اجتماعی در وجهه زنان و مردان، آنان به شیوه های مختلف سعی در بازنمود هویت خود داشته ا‌ند. نتایج این پژوهش میتواند در پژوهشهای علوم اجتماعی، زبانشناسی، کاربردشناسی، تعیین خط‌مشی‌ها و اولویتهای تولیدات رسانه ای و نقد فیلم سودمند باشد.ادب, بافت اجتماعی, براون و لوینسون, تفاوت جنسیتی, سینمای ایرانpoliteness, social context, Brown and Levinson, gender differences, Iranian cinemahttps://bahareadab.com/downloadPDF/1966.pdfhttps://bahareadab.com/downloadPDF/1966.pdfhttps://bahareadab.com/article/تأثیر جنسیت و بافت اجتماعی بر ‌کاربرد راهبردهای ادب در نثر سینمای معاصر ایران بر اساس نظریه ادب براون و لوینسونhttps://bahareadab.com/en/article/The Impact of Gender and Social Context on Politeness Strategies Use in Contemporary Iranian cinematic prose
