An archetypal critique of the hero's journey and the obstacles to his honor in the novel Symphony of the Dead by Abbas Maroufi

Abstract

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Archetypal criticism is one of the modern theories of contemporary literary criticism and is based on the model of psychological criticism, which analyzes and examines based on Jung"s opinions and theories. According to Jung, archetypes are the product of repeated human experiences in life and are embedded in the human unconscious. Based on this approach (literary criticism), the hero"s journey to achieve individuality, perfection and maturity is possible by relying on the presence of archetypes in the life of each person. The aim of the current research is to analyze and investigate the archetype of the hero"s journey and his path to glory in the novel Symphony of the Dead.

METHODOLOGY: The research method in this thesis is descriptive-analytical, based on library studies and document analysis, and analysis of the novel Symphony of the Dead based on Jung"s archetypal critique.

FINDINGS: Research findings: The research findings indicate that in the novel Symphony of the Dead, due to the psychological approach in the novel, the presence of the archetype of shadow and anima in the path of the hero"s honor is noticeable.

CONCLUSION: Research results: The results of the research in this article show that Aydin, the main hero of the story, faces the archetype of the shadow, namely his father and Orhan, and although he was able to take the path of study and education against his father"s opinion, in the end, with The death of the sister (existential anima) prevents the continuation of the path.
